One of Austria's largest telecommunications companies is started to accept cryptocurrencies as payments. Plans are also afoot for AliPay and WeChat Pay to be added to the payment options in the near future.

A1 is a giant of the Austria fixed and mobile line sector, with over 5million customers. Locations accepting payments will be limited at first and only a select number of coins will be taken as a means of payment.

Payment solutions are being worked on with Salamantex, Ingenico and Concardis. Plans are afoot to add AliPay and WeChat Pay to the roster of payment options in the coming month.

Markus Schreiber, Head of A!'s Business Marketing told Futurezone, "cash is a discontinued model . With our pilot operation in the A1 shops we test demand and acceptance of digital currency in Austria."

The aim is to encourage payments from tourists as well from Austrians. Coins that are going to be accepted in the initial project are Litecoin, Dash, Ethereum, Ripple, and Stellar.
