The Dubai Future Council for Blockchain met last week and agreed on three initiatives to harness the technology to improve the city. This was the second meeting held by the council and brought together industry experts, decision makers, and members of government departments.

The three moves initiated by the council were; a report on the position of cryptocurrency within and around Dubai; a Dubai Blockchain Implementation Policy; and a report entitled Future Landscape Report for Blockchain in Dubai. Within the meeting, working groups were set up to steer the initiatives.

The council is part of a larger drive to draw on technological advances for Dubai. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, launched The Dubai Future Council with the aim to harness new technology to make the city advance.

Smart Dubai’s director-general and chair of the council, Dr Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr, said, "Blockchain is one of the most promising technologies to appear on the world stage in recent years and Dubai has already made remarkable accomplishments in the sector, launching a blockchain strategy and hosting international blockchain conferences that bring together influential international experts."
